After you choose a membership plan and check out:
- We will call you at the phone number you provided to begin the onboarding process and answer any questions you may have
- We’ll share your device with you to complete the onboarding.
That’s it! After the onboarding, we’ll send you a ‘welcome packet’ that includes:
- Scam Vault stickers to post on or near your computer, with our phone number for easy reference.
- Phone Safety Awareness to post by your phone, ready for when the scammers call
- If requested, a webcam cover for your laptop camera
Then, each month we’ll email you (and your loved ones) a report of what scams we prevented and a summary of all activity.
If you want more technical details about the onboarding, read on!
Technical Aspects
Instant Remote Support
To prevent many of the most basic scams, we don’t preinstall software on your computer. Instead, when you need support, you’ll reach out to us and only with a secure code will we be able to access your PC.
All remote sessions will be summarized in your month end report.
Windows PC Baseline Security Check
Our initial onboarding will make sure your PC is healthy and that the owner knows about some basic security protocols.
- How to use the built-in browser password manager tool and avoid using the same password.
- A quick check on the dark web to make sure those credentials haven’t already been compromised
- How to use MFA (Multi-Factor-Authentication) on critical sites such as banking, shopping and other important sites
- Confirmation that your current anti-malware is in place and operational.
- Confirm that your everyday account is not an administrative level account that can install software
- Confirm that Windows Updates is performing as expected.
- Implement Windows PC download protection to prevent you from downloading and executing unwanted programs.
Zoom Install and Check
Many seniors depend on videoconferencing systems to stay in touch. We’ll install Zoom and conduct a test Zoom conference to make sure the application and audio-visual components are all in working order. If there’s ever any issue with Zoom, just contact us and we’ll make it work!
Web Filtering
Web filtering is a first line defense. By providing by an enterprise grade filtering tool, we’ll keep MOST visitors from:
- Known malware and phishing sites
- Known security risks (suspicious downloads, risky sites)
- Show you how to share a suspicious web page to our Scam Vault hotline.
- Show you what a Scam Alert webpage looks like.
Email ScamBOT Alert
Because many of us are accustomed to the email program of our choice, and prefer to not add another program to your computer. We work with your current email provider. To this end, mail filtering has two components:
Filtering
We’ll set up an automated ‘bot’ to check your mailbox. Known scams will be automatically removed and reviewed by our team to ensure 100% accuracy. If an email was incorrectly removed by our bot, we’ll put it back!
We will need an email username and password to be able to filter your inbox.
ScamAlert Forwarder
Scamalert@scamvault.com will be added to your address book – and if anything suspicious shows up in your email, just forward it to this monitored mailbox. Our techs will review it, respond AND call you with a response plan.
